Two people with active warrants arrested after shots fired in Chicopee

CHICOPEE, Mass. (WWLP) – Shots fired in the Empire Street neighborhood of Chicopee brought several police officers and prompted evacuations in the area early Friday evening.

Chicopee Police Department spokesman Mike Wilk confirmed with 22News that shots were fired in the Empire and Meadow streets area and that a vehicle was struck. No one was hurt, however, the police department’s Special Response Team were called in to investigate. 

Two individuals with active warrants for their arrest were taken into police custody without incident. Wilk said investigators are trying to determine if they were involved with the shots fired.

The area of Empire and Meadow streets was blocked off and residents in the area were evacuated as a precaution while investigators determined who was responsible for the shots fired.

Traffic has since returned to normal and residents have been allowed to return to their homes. Wilk told 22News the incident posed no threat to the public.
