Chicopee police warning residents after reports of man trying to lure children into truck

Hampden County

Chicopee police are warning parents to have a talk with their kids, after reports over the last several weeks of a man in a red pickup truck, driving up to kids offering candy, and to get in his car.

Parents in the Willimansett neighborhood, where the incidents have been reported, said kids can usually run around the neighborhood, but now they’re keeping a closer eye.

Police are asking parents to talk with their kids about what’s going on, and why strangers can be dangerous.

Neal Johnson of Chicopee told 22News, “To have this kind of thing is very appalling to me actually. Chicopee is not a very big place, a lot of kids go to school together. They live in close-knit neighborhoods and they get very comfortable. This kind of thing you don’t see or hear every day, so just educate the children, that’s all I can say.”

The Chicopee Police Department is stressing that this man has not made any physical contact with kids, but they’re asking children and parents alike to be on the lookout for the vehicle, or any suspicious behavior.

The police department is asking people to get as much information as possible about the truck and the driver if they see them approaching kids, and to call the police immediately.
