Tuesday is World Autism Awareness Day, and the city of Chicopee did its part to highlight people living with this disorder.
A puzzle-piece flag was raised at City Hall Tuesday night. The flag features artwork created by Sunshine Village, a center that supports people with autism.
Marisa Carpenter, the woman who created these events, told 22News how autism has impacted her family, “I have 2 boys on the Autism spectrum; both on different ends of the spectrum. So this is why it’s so meaningful for the community and to just be accepted and be included.”
An estimated 3.5 million Americans have been diagnosed with autism.
