Hundreds of people took the opportunity to meet members of the Chicopee Police and Fire departments Monday evening.
Chicopee is the first of several western Massachusetts communities participating in the annual National Night Out.
The Night Out provides an opportunity for people to get to know their local first responders.
The event featured police and fire department vehicles, as well as food, games, and a bounce houses for the kids, who get to meet police officers in a friendly context.
“Everybody comes out together as a community, and the kids get to understand that the police and all them are good for us, and not to be afraid of them,” said Shena Jette of Chicopee.
National night out events will also take place Tuesday in Agawam, Springfield, and East Longmeadow.
