Hampden County

Downtown Chicopee was illuminated Friday night to shine a light of appreciation on those who live, work and play in the city.

The Greater Chicopee Chamber of Commerce is hosting a Lights On Art and Culture Event, this weekend.

The Chicopee Cultural Council is looking for ways to revitalize residential units as well as the city’s business district. The Cultural Council is hoping to find spaces that could be converted into venues for artists.

“Northampton, Amherst, Easthampton all have this really vibrant arts scene. It’s here. We just have to shine a light on it and that’s what Lights On Art and Culture are about,” Chairperson Susan Knightly told 22News.

Lyman Mills, Old City Library and SilverBrick Mills were lit up blue to attract residents downtown.

The Lights On Art and Culture Event continues Saturday morning with a pancake breakfast, free checkups with the Elms College Care Van, and get up close and personal with “Booker,” the Chicopee Library Bookmobile.
