City leaders discuss funding for new recycling center in Chicopee

Hampden County

Mayor Richard Kos and the Chicopee DPW are proposing the establishment of a recycling center at the DPW headquarters at Baskin Drive.

The City Council discussed funding Tuesday night, which would be around $128,000.

Kos and the DPW are proposing the money come from the city’s Free Cash account.

The Chicopee landfill is expected to close at the end of this year.

Officials said a recycling center will enable residents to drop off certain recyclable materials locally, rather than have to go out of town.

It will not accept any trash.
