SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – The city’s oldest mural will be restored.

The “Fresh Paint Springfield” festival begins Saturday.

The mural along State Street will be freshened up. It was first painted back in 1968 during equal rights protests in the city.

The mural celebrates African American heritage and is slated to be repainted over the course of the nine-day festival.
