Cooling centers open in western Massachusetts

Hampden County

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Cooling centers will be available in Springfield and Agawam due to the excessive heat expected early this week.

An Excessive Heat Watch is in effect for central/eastern Hampden County for Tuesday and Wednesday. The heat index could reach 100-105 degrees these days.

The cooling centers will be at the following locations:


Agawam Public Library, 750 Cooper Street

Tuesday through Saturday 9am-6pm

Agawam Senior Center, 954 Main Street

Tuesday through Friday 9am-6pm


RiverMills Senior Center, 5 West Main Street

Tuesday and Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Chicopee Public Library, 449 Front Street

Tuesday and Wednesday 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

All spray parks are open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
