WEST SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A Chicopee man died in a motorcycle crash on I-91 northbound in West Springfield during the Tuesday morning commute.

According to Massachusetts State Police Sergeant Corey Mackey, at around 6:25 a.m. Troopers were called to a single-vehicle motorcycle crash on I-91 north in West Springfield. The motorcyclist, a 24-year-old Chicopee man, died due to the crash.

The crash is just past Exits 10A and 10B in West Springfield. State Police have closed the left-hand lane of traffic in the area, leading to backups that begin as far back as before the Chicopee Curve.

State Police say two additional and separate multi-vehicle crashes involving a total of five vehicles took place shortly after 7 a.m. in the same area. Three people were taken to Baystate Medical Center in Springfield with minor injuries. 

The cause of the crash is being investigated by Troop B of the Massachusetts State Police, the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section, and the State Police Detective Unit for Hampden County.
