Crews put out two car fires in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield firefighters responded to two separate car fires in Springfield Friday evening.

Springfield’s Fire Captain Brian Tetreault told 22News, crews were called to 49 Albemarle Street around 5:30 p.m. Friday for a report of a car fire.

No one was hurt and crews were able to put the fire out quickly.

No word on what caused the fire.

Firefighters then were called to another car fire in the area of 300 Birnie Avenue around 7:00 p.m. Friday evening.

That fire was also put out quickly and no injuries were reported.

The Springfield Arson & Bomb Squad determined the cause of the fire was a mechanical malfunction that occurred as the driver was exiting 91 South.
