Hampden County

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Crews worked to control and put out a structure fire on Wilbraham Avenue in Springfield Friday night.

Just after 9:30 p.m., Springfield Fire Department spokesman Captain Drew Piemonte said all companies were operating on the fire at 140 Wilbraham Avenue.

Crews saw heavy fire and smoke coming from the building when they initially arrived and the building seemed abandoned.

Capt. Piemonte said, “a second alarm was struck,” during the fire. It has since been extinguished and no injuries were reported.

The fire department’s Arson And Bomb Squad is investigating the cause.
