Disabled American Veterans van helps local veterans keep benefits updated

Hampden County

A trip to West Springfield was all it took for dozens of disabled veterans to have their benefits updated.

The Disabled American Veterans (DAV) van spent the day at American Legion Post 207 in West Springfield. The DAV staff met with dozens of Springfield area disabled veterans.

Retired Airman Jack Malone told 22News, he’s glad he made the trip from Ludlow, “It makes it much more convenient for the veterans. The service officers are on board and talk to the service officers and do a claim right there on the computer. It goes back to Boston, they submit it directly to the VA.”

The disabled veterans information van is on the road in western Massachusetts once each year.

Similar information can be obtained from the Holyoke Soldiers’ Home and the VA Medical Center in Leeds.
