A discussion about race and segregation was held at Westfield State University Thursday night.

New York Times reporter Nikole Hannah-Jones spoke about the history and legacies of racial segregation in the public education and housing systems.

One Westfield State University student told 22News that Jones’ research and experience is helping create more diversity on campus.

Krystal Vazquez of Springfield said, “Hearing her opinions and her experiences have been really valuable to my research.”

Jones spoke about her research on the history of racism, school re-segregation and the history of desegregation orders.
