Hampden County

State police and firefighters in Springfield rescued a dog from the ice Monday morning.

According to Massachusetts State Police, troopers at the Springfield state police barracks received a report that a dog had fallen through the ice just off the side of I-291 near Exit 3.

Police said a trooper went to check the area and found the dog in the water. The trooper called the Springfield Fire Department, who came and removed the dog from the ice.

The dog had been reported missing earlier Monday morning and was reunited with its family following the rescue.
