Domestic violence conference held at Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield

October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. 

Dress for Success Western Massachusetts wanted to facilitate a conversation on domestic violence and the impact its been having on women in the workplace. 

The second annual Breaking Down the Barriers Conference was held Thursday morning at the Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield. 

A panel of five women led Thursday’s conference which focused on domestic violence and how it impacts women’s employment and job retention. 

The panelists included an attorney and representatives from the YWCA and the employers association of the northeast. 

“A lot of women may be hiding it and it may not be visible,” said Margaret Tantillo, Dress For Success Western Massachusetts executive director. “Be sensitive and supportive because it impacts women for the long haul and it impacts their workplace and their employers.”

Tantillo told 22News Dress for Success Western Massachusetts helps women across the Pioneer Valley achieve economic independence.

Tantillo said one in nine men are victims of domestic violence.
