The Irish flag was raised over Springfield city hall Friday.
Springfield Colleen Rose McCaffrey and Mayor Domenic Sarno did the flag raising honors Friday morning.
Dozens of men and women wearing green attended the annual event starting St. Patrick’s Day weekend. The 18-year-old Springfield Colleen told 22News she tries to adhere to her Irish heritage each and every day.
“Just to honor traditions that me and my family have,” McCaffrey reflected. “Making mutton pies with my grandmother. Corn beef and cabbage dinners with my grandparents. Just a general feeling of family and able to spend time with them.”
Many of those attending the Irish flag raising at Springfield city hall Friday, will march during Sunday’s Holyoke St. Patrick’s Parade.
