Thursday is the second day of Kwanzaa, a seven day celebration of black culture.
Muhammad’s Mosque 13 hosted their second annual Kwanzaa celebration in Springfield Thursday night.
Dozens came out to the event which featured poetry readings, a dance performance and an afro-centric fashion show.
22News spoke to Coordinator Ayanna Crawford about the importance of teaching younger generations to celebrate their heritage, “In order to keep the legacy going, we want to make sure that our children have that knowledge and that information.”
Kwanzaa was started in 1966.
