East Hill Rd. in Monson reopened after downed wires took out power

Hampden County

Drivers were advised to avoid the East Hill Road area after power lines came down during Tuesday’s thunderstorm.

The road has since reopened for traffic but crews are still in the area working.

Monson police told drivers to seek alternate routes as the fallen power lines caused outages to a number of residences in the area.

Around 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, the MEMA map showed over 1,000 customers without power in Hampden County.

Wales had 884 customers without power, Holland 42, Brimfield 146, Monson 250, Hampden 28, according to the MEMA map.

A photo posted by the police department showed the downed power lines on fire and smoke.
