East Longmeadow Police warning residents of chimney inspection schemes

Hampden County

The East Longmeadow Police Department is warning residents of a new scheme involving chimney inspections.

Chimney companies are allegedly attempting to charge residents for unnecessary work during inspections.

The police department is advising residents to review their chimney companies with the Better Business Bureau and ask for references.

Pioneer Valley Chimney Sweeps recommends you check a company’s rating with the Better Business Bureau website. And always get a second opinion on expensive repairs.

“They try to get them instantly to get the work while they’re there offering an emergency discount while they’re standing there in the doorway rather than taking their time and getting another estimate and referral, that’s when the problem starts,” said Tom Cowell of Pioneer Valley Chimney Sweeps.

Pioneer Valley Chimney Sweeps said there are several issues that could require additional work on your chimney, but you should get a second opinion on expensive repairs to be safe.

East Longmeadow Police are asking you to report any suspicious activity to the department.
