I-291 East reopened after car fire in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – I-291 East was closed after a car fire in Springfield Tuesday morning but has since reopened.

Springfield Fire Department Captain Brian Tetreault told 22News, around 10:41 a.m, firefighters were called to I-291 eastbound between exits 4 and 5 where they found a car on fire.

Captain Tetreault said the fire was quickly put out and all passengers including three adults and four children were able to exit the car safely before firefighters arrived.

No injuries were reported.
