The Springfield College women’s basketball team played for an audience of hundreds of Springfield elementary school students on Tuesday.
Boys and girls from the Lincoln, Elias Brookings and William DeBerry elementary schools were guests of the Springfield College Athletics Program and the Division of Inclusion and Community Engagement.
They treated the students to pizza before the game against the Coast Guard Academy.
“For a lot of students, it’s the first time they’ve been on a college campus,” Dr. Calvin Hill explained. “What better way to get them excited about an athletic event: see the mascot, see a great basketball game and learning at the same time?”
This is the second year Springfield school children have been invited to the Springfield College campus.
Their experience also included math and other interactive activities during half-time.
