Fire at Chestnut St. building in Springfield caused evacuation Thursday

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - A Chestnut Street building was temporarily evacuated due to a fire early Thursday evening.

Springfield Fire Department spokesman Dennis Leger told 22News firefighters were called to 10 Chestnut St. where they found a trash chute fire that spread to a dumpster in the basement of the building.

Smoke and water damage was found mainly in the basement.

Leger said no injuries were reported.
