SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) - Western Massachusetts residents were able to get rid of their old bills, bank statements and tax returns Saturday for free.
Freedom Credit Union hosted their first of two spring community shred days Saturday. The shredding events are being held in collaboration with PROSHRED Springfield.
Freedom Credit is offering secure and on-site shredding services at its branches in Springfield, Ludlow, Chicopee, Greenfield and Northampton. Members and non-members are allowed to bring up to five boxes or bags filled with files.
"We have a home shredder, we do what we can but when you have boxes and boxes of documents you'll burn out your shredder, so this is great," said Barry Gavello of Springfield.
If you missed Saturday's event you still have a chance to get rid of your unwanted documents. A second shredding event will be held on Saturday, May 4.
Non-perishable food items are also being collected to benefit the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts.
