A scholarship fundraiser was held in memory of a former Chicopee High School wrestler Friday night.
Xzavier Ellias Lopez passed away unexpectedly this past November at the age of 22. He was a student-athlete as well as a U.S. Army Veteran.
The benefit was held at the AMVets in Chicopee to raise money for a scholarship that will be named for him.
Mary Zaida Lopez, Xzavier’s sister, told 22News, “It means so much to me. We definitely want to make his memory live as long as possible. We do not want people to forget Xzavier. The people he has touched and the people he does know would never forget him. We definitely want to keep that long-lasting impression.”
The scholarship will be awarded to a Chicopee High School senior who is a member of the wrestling team.
