Southwick residents are hoping to raise $1.3 million to preserve 146 acres of land near North Pond.

Residents held a fundraiser and information night at the Southwick Inn. Raising money through food, raffles, and shirts.

The Southwick Lake Management Committee told 22News the cost of the project is $5 million, but they are only $1.3 million short.

One Southwick resident told 22news, buying the land will allow families to continue to enjoy the water, picnics and hiking on the land.

“This piece of land is so special,” said Michelle Pratt. “It connects to some of the largest preserved grasslands, beautiful pine forests and sits above an aquifer that we rely on for clean drinking water.”

Southwick is holding a special town meeting on March 19 at 6:30 p.m. Voters will decide if the town will bond for the rest of the money through taxes.
