Granite Valley Middle School students evacuated due to generator exhaust in building

Hampden County

MONSON, Mass. (WWLP) – Granite Valley Middle School in Monson has been evacuated due to generator exhaust inside the building.

According to Monson Public Schools Superintendent Cheryl Clarke, students will remain outside while firefighters ventilate the building.

Clarke said the fire alarm went off around 8:00 a.m. An investigation determined the cause of the alarm was exhaust from a generator that construction workers were using on the roof of the gym. None of the classrooms or common areas were affected, Clarke said.

Our 22News crew saw students and staff going back into the building at around 10:00 a.m.
