Gypsy Moth caterpillars return to Hampden County

Hampden County

Western Massachusetts residents are now enjoying green leaves on the trees but those leaves may be in danger.

This video was sent to 22News through our Report It feature.

Those are Gypsy Moth caterpillars crawling around the foundation of a house in Wilbraham.

The hungry caterpillars ate the leaves off of more than 923,000 acres of trees last year.

According to the Mass Department of Conservation and Recreation this year is not expected to be as severe, but the caterpillars will still be an issue in parts of Hampden, Hampshire, Worcester, Norfolk, and Essex Counties.
