34 arrests made in weeklong investigation by Hampden County DA

Hampden County

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – On Friday the Hampden County District Attorney gave new information on significant arrests and gun seizures in Springfield and surrounding areas.

DA Anthony Gulluni, told 22News that 34 arrests were made over a week-long investigation named “Operation Fold,” conducted mainly in Springfield.

Gulluni said the arrests were “in order to respond to certain acts of violence and historical trends in the city of Springfield.”

The investigation focused on people known to law enforcement and people known to be allegedly involved with gangs, according to the DA.

“We will continue these investigations and hopefully more arrests are coming,” said Acting Springfield Police Commissioner, Cheryl Clapprood.

The DA said the investigations will continue into the summer.

“Typically in summer in urban areas, not exclusive to Springfield, there are upticks in violence,” Gulluni said.

The majority of the arrests were people with alleged known gang affiliation. The DA said he believes that significant actors in the gangs were taken off the street.

Also, a number of people were arrested on outstanding warrants and subjects in several narcotics investigations, many had known alleged gang affiliations.
