A discussion was held Monday night at Holyoke Community College on recent immigration issues.
Experts on immigration talked about historical roots of family separation. The event focused on immigrant children and struggles that they are facing.
They also discussed what can be done to help people going through these issues. 22News spoke with Associate Professor of Latin Studies at Mt. Holyoke College, David Hernandez, who shared his thoughts on the country’s ongoing issues.
“In terms of people in detention, you can visit them, bail them out, support them,” said Hernandez. “There are lots of agencies that support them. In terms of the migrant caravan, there are organizations going down to the border in order to offer there support on both sides.”
Monday night’s discussion is part of a year-long series called “Enduring Racism.”
