One dead after shooting on Acushnet Avenue in Springfield

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Springfield Police are investigating a deadly shooting in the city’s South End.

According to Springfield Police Spokesperson Ryan Walsh, officers arrived on Acushnet Avenue around 12:40 p.m. after a report of shots fired. A man was found with a gunshot wound and was sent to Baystate Medical Center, where he later died.

Our 22News crew saw several cruisers on Acushnet Avenue. There was yellow police tape surrounding a black vehicle with front-end damage. A forensic unit truck was also parked on the street.

The Springfield Homicide Unit is continuing to investigate the incident.

Walsh said more information on the incident would be provided on Tuesday.
