More than dozen police vehicles were on the Memorial Bridge Thursday night.
Springfield Fire Department spokesman Dennis Leger told 22News a middle aged female was near the railing on the Memorial Bridge. Leger said members of the Springfield Fire and Police managed to talk the woman in distress to safety and she was taken to the hospital.
22News had a crew at the Springfield Yacht Club where the Springfield and Agawam Police Department both had boats on standby but did not launch into the Connecticut River. Leger said Longmeadow emergency crews also had a boat ready to go.
The large presence of police caused a lane on the bridge heading towards West Springfield to be blocked off for a period but it’s now clear.
