Heavy winds bring trees and wires down in local areas, road closures announced

GRANBY, Mass. (WWLP) – Heavy winds on Monday is causing some road closures. 

Granby Police announced just before 4:20 p.m., that Carver Street is blocked to traffic near Route 145. 

Drivers are being asked to avoid the area and seek alternate routes until further notice. 

GREENFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – Drivers are being asked to detour around on Deerfield Street after wires came down in the area Monday evening.

Police said Mountain Road is closed due to the wires down. Police added that emergency personnel’s have been called to “multiple weather incidents.” 

There are reports of trees, poles, wires down throughout the community and surrounding areas.

Police are urging drivers to not drive over, touch downed wires or trees. 

EASTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – A section of Ward Avenue is closed after multiple utility poles caught fire in the Ward Avenue area. 

Easthampton Police told 22News Ward Ave. is closed to traffic between Park and Hisgen, until the road is cleared and safe for travel. 

Drivers are asked to avoid the area and seek alternate routes. 

HATFIELD, Mass. (WWLP) – A portion of Prospect Street is closed until further notice.  

Hatfield Police said a tree down behind the legion is the cause of the road closure. Eversource has been contacted for repairs. 

Police say the road will be closed until all repairs are made. 

NORTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Parts of Chesterfield Road is closed due to downed utility poles. 

According to the City of Northampton, Chester Rd. is closed between Sylvester Road/Kennedy Road and Montague Road. 

National Grid has been called for repairs but police say their response time is unknown due to other downed poles in the area caused by high winds. 

All drivers are asked to avoid the closed area until further notice.

HOLYOKE, Mass. (WWLP) – Police are “heavily patrolling” the Holyoke Mall area after power went out Monday night. The mall is closed for the night, according to city officials.

Holyoke Police Lt. Isaias Cruz told 22News the mall lost power around 5 p.m., and that officers are in the area assisting to make sure everyone is safe.

There are also street lights out, trees and wires down in several areas of the city. 

Widespread power outages are also being reported, Lt. Cruz said.

Please travel through the area with extra caution.

SOUTHAMPTON, Mass. (WWLP) – Downed trees and wires in several areas around town are causing road closures and police are asking drivers to stay off the roads Monday night. 

Southampton Police said the following roads are closed: 

East Street is closed to traffic from 55 East up to Middle Road (Poles and limes down) 

Strong Road is closed at East Street 

Route 10 is closed at Brickyard (Tree across the road) 

Glendale Road from Miller to Easthampton town line is closed (Tree and poles down) 

Valley at Brickyard is closed (Tree and lines down) 

Gunn Road in the vicinity of Route 78 (Tree on wires)
