Heavy winds result in downed trees and damaged roofs

Hampden County

Damage from Monday’s intense winds left several communities picking up the pieces the day afterward.

The week’s wind storm has caused some local residents to compare it to the damaging storm of October 2011.

The sound of wind gusts reaching up to 60 miles-per-hour created quite an impression among those who felt the impact.

“It sounded like tornadoes, it sounded like things falling,” Leonar Nieves explained. “Like something that you never heard before, like the doors are coming off your apartment or your home.”

Matthew McGinnes told 22News “We live up in South Hadley in the rural area. And the trees were all bending over. There was a lot of sounds. I didn’t go out to see what it felt like.”

Tree removal services along with roof repair crews were out in full force on Tuesday, repairing the damage from Monday’s wind storm.
