The Holyoke Fire Department held a “last day send-off” party for Lieutenant Richard “Spike” Ostiguy on Wednesday.

The firefighters celebrated the retirement of the 30-year department veteran at its headquarters.

Ostiguy began his career at the Holyoke Fire Department in 1989 and was promoted to lieutenant in 1992.

He worked his final shift Wednesday morning with a noontime gathering surrounded by family, friends, fellow retirees, and his fire department brothers.

Ostiguy was presented with his helmet and given a ceremonial last ride home in his fire engine.

“Congratulations to Spike on his retirement,” the fire department said in a Facebook post. “His experience, attitude, and leadership was appreciated and will be missed by all of us who worked with him.”
