Holyoke Soldiers Home unveils new walking path for residents, visitors

Another expression of caring Friday for the residents of the Holyoke Soldiers Home.        

With the cutting of the ribbon, the soldiers home now has a nearly two-mile walking path to be enjoyed by the residents and their visitors.

Holyoke Soldiers Home Superintendent Bennett Walsh also announced an enhanced fall prevention program to reduce injuries among the aging veterans.

Donna Archambault visits her uncle regularly at the soldiers home.

“Oh, it makes me feel very good the work being done here,” said Archambault. “The mobility these gentlemen are getting around and the trips they get in support of their life, yes.”

Friday’s festivities enhanced Joe Leal’s birthday celebration. He turned 100 Friday.

The Holyoke Soldiers Home has several residents over one hundred years old.
