Hot competition in annual Melha Shriners chili cook-off

Hampden County

The Melha Sportsman Club hosted a chili cook-off at the Melha Shriners Building in Springfield Saturday afternoon.

For a small fee, participants were able to enter their chili into a competition to be judged. Two hundred people came out to try chili made by 25 different participants.

“It’s chili, nothing but chili,” said Co-chairman Bob Wool. “We got about 25 chefs. Everyone’s brought some good chili. People come they’ll eat it.”

Wool told 22News, the purpose of the annual community event, “It’s a fundraiser for the Shriners and we are here to have a good time and eat some chili.”

All proceeds from Sunday’s event will benefit the Melha Shrine Sportsman Club.
