Hot patch material for potholes available soon

We’re dealing with an earlier than usual pothole season due to temperature swings above and below freezing this winter.

Local DPWs have already been out filling potholes in western Massachusetts with a material called cold patch, but a more long-term solution is just a few weeks away.

Ondrick’s in Chicopee is getting ready to provide hot patch material to cities and towns like Southwick, Westfield, and Chicopee for a more permanent fix.

“The hot patch I believe everyone likes to work with more because it lays down better, it rakes in better, it’s not as clumpy,” Wayne Bettinger, Ondrick’s Plant manager:

Southwick DPW Supervisor Chris Faria told 22News crews were out filling potholes in town until December last year. He anticipates getting them filled much earlier this season, starting with the ones he calls ‘tire busters’ that are most likely to cause damage to your car.
