After 53 years as one of western Massachusetts’ premiere Asian restaurants, the Hu Ke Lau in Chicopee is closing its doors Friday night.
The sign at the entrance wishes its many patrons Aloha, good-bye and hello again in the not to distant future. Co-owner Billy Yee assured 22News, a new but smaller Hu Ke Lau will go up at the same site on Memorial Drive at a later date.
“The new Hu Ke Lau right now after this building comes down, we’ll get a team together to try to find the right solution for a brighter Hu Ke Lau in the future,” said Yee. “We don’t want to rush it, we want to take one step at a time. Probably in a year’s time, we’ll make an announcement of what this site will be.”
The Yee family hopes to make an announcement soon about the plans to demolish the iconic restaurant.
