Hundreds celebrate Easter at Saint Stanislaus Basilica in Chicopee

Hampden County

The faithful attended Easter services in Churches all across western Massachusetts Sunday.

Millions of people around the world are celebrating the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Saint Stanislaus Basilica in Chicopee held its annual Easter Sunday service. Parishioners filled the pews, as they demonstrated their faith.

Anne-Marie Szmyt of Wilbraham told 22News, “I think it’s wonderful to have a chance every year to demonstrate what your faith is all about and on such a beautiful day to remember, with everything else going on in the world, we always have this.”

Saint Stanislaus held five Easter services Sunday: three in English, and the other two in Polish.

Phyllis Stec and her husand attend Easter Service every year in Chicopee. Although it was a full house on Sunday, she wishes more people would go to church on a regular basis.

Stec told 22News, “I just want more people to come into church and know how important it is. It’s the most important place to be with god and being in church.”

Her husband, Walter Stec, agreed, saying, “It’s the most important celebration of the year and the church was pretty full today but I’d like to see that every Sunday.”

Nonetheless, hundreds came together for a day filled with celebration.
