It was a beautiful day as hundreds of Springfield residents celebrated their annual block party at Thompson Triangle Park Saturday afternoon.
It’s a community event to help people get to know their neighbors. This is the 10th year of the block party.
Community groups were on hand to sign kids up for summer activities. The neighborhood watch and the Springfield Police Department also participated.
There was plenty of food, live music and free face painting for kids.
“One of the things we find a lot is people saying, Hey, I didn’t know you lived next to me, or Oh My God I didn’t know you lived behind me, or wow, I never knew how beautiful this park is, I never been here before,” said Walter Kroll, McKnight Neighborhood Council president. “So those things are kind of the side benefits of this kind of thing. It’s to have fun, to get people connected.”
The block party is sponsored by the McKnight Neighborhood Council and the neighborhood watch.
