A social media message led to a police investigation at a downtown Springfield school Thursday morning.
Modesto Montero, the Executive Director of Libertas Academy on Chestnut Street, told 22News that a message posted by a student on Instagram had caused concern Thursday morning. He said that school officials had contacted police, who investigated the matter.
Montero said that because of the two hour delay Thursday morning, there did not have to be a disruption to classes because of the investigation. It was determined that there was no threat.
Montero told 22News that a school-wide meeting was held to discuss what is and isn’t important on social media. “It was an unfortunate incident, but we wanted to make sure they learned from that,” he said.
The student who made the social media posting is being disciplined, Montero said.
