A West Springfield police officer helped rescue one-week-old kittens Saturday.
According to the West Springfield Animal Control, on Friday a resident reported a mother cat had just given birth under the porch of their home.
Animal Control said the cat was able to be caught using a trap Saturday morning, but there was no way to reach the kittens.
Luckily, West Springfield Police Officer Gonnello was able to remove a wooden board from the porch and retrieve all six kittens.
The organization said the animals appeared to be in good health and were placed in foster care.
Officer Gonnello then replaced the board he had removed to get to the kittens.
