Dozens of Knights of Columbus volunteers were busy at the Castle of Knights in Chicopee Wednesday, preparing for the organization’s 28th annual Thanksgiving Day dinner and meal distribution.
Volunteers have been working all week preparing the Thanksgiving feasts.
“There are people who were here weeks ahead of time helping to prepare this,” said Jack Gauthier, Knights of Columbus Volunteer. “I came in for a few days, I’ll probably spend three days here and that’s the least I can do for the people of Chicopee and the surrounding communities.
All of the Thanksgiving meals are being stored in the Knights of Columbus’ walk-in refrigerator. About 80 percent of the meals will be delivered to western Massachusetts families Thursday.
“There are lots of people on the receiving end of this who want a hot meal warm, a place to stay on Thanksgiving, and be social, meet with other people, and have a nice Thanksgiving Day,” said Dan Maschia, Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Fairview Council 4044.
Dan Mashia told 22News they’re prepared to deliver two thousand Thanksgiving-Day meals to several western Massachusetts communities, including Granby, Holyoke, and Chicopee. He said anyone is welcome to attend their Thanksgiving Dinner at the Castle of Knights on Memorial Drive in Chicopee, no questions asked.
They’re expecting as many as 800 people.
22News will be live at the Castle of Knights starting at 5 a.m. Thursday morning when volunteers will begin organizing the Thanksgiving meals for delivery.
