INDIAN ORCHARD, Mass. (WWLP) – For the sixth consecutive summer, Lake Lorraine State Park in Indian Orchard will be closed to the public.

Advocates of a neighborhood recreation area for Indian Orchard’s young people urge the state to provide money to hire lifeguards.

Neighbors living along the lake are cautious. They’re concerned about the potential for turning the lakeside into a dumping ground.

“People will come down at the end and load up their vehicles and expose our kids to traffic, littering, drugs, drinking,” Oneida Ramos said.

It’s been suggested that Sheriff Nick Cocchi’s clean up crews from the Hampden county jail could handle debris removal.
