Launch party held for new Collegiate Baseball League team in Westfield

Hampden County

A big baseball announcement Wednesday night in Westfield.

A launch party was held for the new Futures Collegiate Baseball League expansion team, the Westfield Starfires.

The team’s roster consists of current college players from around the area and around the country. They will compete with several other New England based teams from Massachusetts and Connecticut.

The franchise owners unveiled the team’s name and logo at the Shortstop Bar and Grille Wednesday night.

Co-owner of the Westfield Starfires, Donnie Moorhouse, told 22News that the team’s roster will begin in Westfield, but will include college players from around the country.

Moorhouse said, “Why are we coming here? Because its Westfield. Westfield has a great tradition of baseball from Babe Ruth right up to college with Westfield State.”

The Westfield team will play a 56 game schedule this summer, with their home games at Bullens Field.
