Holiday lights are going up on homes all across western Massachusetts. If you have old lights, you should get rid of them and consider getting LED lights.
LED lights are brighter and use 80 percent less energy than the incandescent ones. They’re also much cooler and pose much less of a fire hazard.
But be careful when you’re putting up those lights outside your home.
“If you’re doing outdoor displays you want to be very careful,” Priscilla Ress of Eversource explained. “If you’re putting a ladder up, you want to look around and be absolutely sure that you can’t come in contact with any kind of overhead electric power line.”
You should also set timers for your lights so they automatically turn on and off. That can also help save you money.
