It was Light It Up Blue night in Chicopee Tuesday.
In honor of Autism Awareness, the fire department held a lighting ceremony where several fire stations and city buildings were illuminated in blue light Tuesday night.
The Chicopee Fire Department has been actively advocating for Autism Awareness for years, but one fire lieutenant told us why they began lighting the city up blue.
“I was talking to the chief who is now retired, and he said ‘how about red goes blue for autism?’ And we decided to hang up blue lights at the station for the month of April,” Chicopee Fire Lt. Aktie Collins-Kalbaugh told 22News.
A puzzle piece was also lit up. The puzzle piece is the symbol for Autism Awareness.
