Hampden County

Western Massachusetts liquor stores are getting a lot of business Wednesday from people in need of alcohol for their Thanksgiving feasts.

Phipps Discount Liquors in Feeding Hills has been seeing a steady flow of customers since they opened at 9:00 a.m. Wednesday morning.

Phipps Manager Maria Coughlen told 22News they made sure to stock up on all of their alcoholic beverages, including beer, wine and champagne.

She said they see more customers the day before Thanksgiving than any other day, besides Christmas Eve.

Casey Federico of Agawam told 22News, “What’s a good Thanksgiving celebration without a little bit of alcohol to give to the guests and to enjoy Thanksgiving with friends and family like most of us do.”

Coughlen told 22News their top Thanksgiving sellers are usually red wines, light beers, and champagne.

She said many customers purchase Pinor Noir and Riesling since they pair well with the turkey.

If you still need to get to the liquor store, be sure to get there before Thursday.

All package stores will be closed on Thanksgiving since its state law.
