Local authorities determined to reduce drug distribution in region

Hampden County

Two unrelated heroin arrests were made in Springfield and West Springfield on the same day this week.

West Springfield Police arrested East Longmeadow resident Amanda Daniele after a drug trafficking investigation, in which they seized 1,200 bags of heroin on Tuesday.

Hampden County Sherrif Nick Cocchi said police and the DA’s Office have been working to reduce the supply of drugs coming into the region from other states.

One Chicopee resident who’s family member died from an overdose said he’s noticed less drugs on the streets.

“You have more and more busts and the sting operation seems like it’s working,” said Mike Moore of Springfield. “We’re getting into the right neighborhoods and keeping an eye on the right people.”

Sheriff Cocchi said increased use of Narcan has helped limit overdose deaths.
