The Hampden County Sheriff’s Department Thursday thanked the agencies and businesses who’ve contributed to the purchase of two thousand backpacks to be distributed later this month.
Edward Caisse of the sheriff’s department told 22News, something as basic as backpack makes a world of difference to the future of a child in need.
“A lot of it is because of poverty. We know that the families in some of these poverty stricken neighborhoods in Holyoke are really struggling. So some times they don’t have the resources they need to get back to school,” Caisse said.
Two thousand Holyoke school children will receive their backpacks filled with school supplies at McNally Field, the afternoon of Saturday, August 18th.
